Listening for the story in the machine.
It might sound odd for a machine learning company to say, but we're all about a book. Or more exactly, the principles that The Trusted Face seeks to commercialize are based on the stories found in a book one of the co-founders has spent nearly a half-decade writing. Those stories taught us that storytelling is the best technology we have: Not artifical intelligence or Big Data -- whatever those things might turn out to be. Looking for the story in the machine has taught us that though we might use network-enabled thinking computers or matrix math or statistical tools to solve problems, plot is what plots the best course. We think the future is about finding the beginning and the ending, and the hero and the McGuffin, the hook, the villain, the good guy and the bad.
It is the narrative engineering that makes great intelligent software.
Around here, the story in the digital thing -- and not the digital thing itself – is what matters. And with it, the grace required to forgive all the malformed stories that never found the time or space to teleport us to new worlds.
Forgiveness, friends, is the hard part.
